It should give the reader an idea of your commitment to a long-term research project in your mentor's group, willingness to adjust current volunteer activities if appropriate, and how you plan to divide your time between research, leadership, and coursework activities. In addition, please address how these activities will benefit your longer term career plans. You should have discussed with your faculty mentor what would be necessary to merit being a co-author on a peer-reviewed scientific publication and you should consider this in developing your plan.
